I’m sure Disney is okay with it now, seeing as KH was a resounding success, but I feel like they must of had some reservations of seeing their characters hanging out with anime children and being slashed and burned up by shadow demons (which is probably why they saved Mickey Mouse until the very end). Speaking of that, it does feel a bit weird to see Disney characters in these Final Fantasy like situations. There’s something I find charming about a character like Goofy spinning around with a shield to help you defeat an enormous mutated polyp inside a giant whale’s sphincter to save Pinocchio.yeah. “Charming” is the word I’d use. For an RPG story, it ain’t bad, but it’s enhanced by having all the cute little Disneys around. Before they had to come up with Nobodies, Data Soras and collectable dream monsters, it was just about a boy travelling to distant worlds to find his friends.as well as get wrapped up in a scheme that threatens the existence of all people and their worlds. Storywise, this is probably the most “pure” Kingdom Hearts narrative in the entire series, next to Birth By Sleep, IMO. It works well for what it’s trying to do, though. Attacking, dodging, and locking on to enemies feels really good, though fumbling through the battle menu for items and non-quick set spells were a bit annoying to me. Didn’t use magic too much, though I naturally used the hell out of Cure, as well as Gravity, which is a good spell against those fatass Heartless. I mainly spammed basic Keyblade attacks, with the occasional AP special attack (Ars Arcainum came in handy a lot). The battle system, however, is still pretty solid to me. Do NOT even get me started on the vine swinging in the Tarzan world.that shit was torture. It wasn’t terrible, but it could’ve been more precise. Platforming bits are really annoying with Sora’s wide landing stance. Despite some annoyances here and there, it was about as enjoyable as it was when I first played it in 2002.įirst I gotta say, as an action RPG, the controls are a bit janky. I just finished it so things are still fresh in my memory.

So naturally we’re gonna start at the (non-chronological) beginning with Kingdom Hearts 1. Was it because KH3 was merely disappointing, or were none of the games even good? I’ll be finding out eventually, or else that $100+ I spent on getting all the HD ports would’ve gone to waste (thanks for that, by the way, Square Enix.you too, Microsoft). A part of me wants to do it just to see if I actually even like Kingdom Hearts anymore I used to when I was younger, but playing through KH3 last year left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Since Kingdom Hearts will be having its 20th birthday in 2022, I’ve decided to use this as an excuse to play through the HD collection throughout the year.
